RCMP nab suspected thieves
Windsor District RCMP have arrested two persons -- an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old youth -- in connection with a rash of thefts from vehicles in the Falmouth and Windsor areas.
Police made the arrests early morning June 4.
The 18-year-old suspect has been released from custody on conditions. He will appear in court at a later date to face several theft-related charges. The 17-year-old is in custody and was scheduled to appear in court June 5. He is facing multiple theft-related charge and breaches of various court orders.
Police spokesperson Cst. George Cameron said the thieves were after money and valuables -- not cars. “There was one incident where the keys were left in the ignition,” he noted. “They were obviously not interested in stealing the vehicle, just the contents.”
Thirty-two cars were targeted in the past two weeks, Cameron said. A substantial amount of stolen property was recovered during the investigation and RCMP say more charges are likely.
Members of the public are reminded to lock their vehicles at all times and not to leave valuables unattended. “Most, if not all, of these cars were left unlocked,” Cameron pointed out.
