Victory Credit Union is helping to combat low literacy levels in the community by supporting the visibility of lifelong learning opportunities in West Hants. The Hants Learning Network installed new signs at its Wentworth Road location as well as at the Computer Literacy Site at the Hants Community Hospital with funding from Victory Credit Union. “Supporting community literacy is the right thing to do,” says Victory Credit Union general manager Jim Riley.

As well, the association is holding a Luncheon for Literacy,

Wednesday, June 18, 11:30 a.m.- 2 p.m. at Cocoa Pesto.

Tickets are $15 per person.

The public can support local literacy programs and enjoy a luncheon with friends.

This event is a partnership between the Hants Learning Network and the Woodshire Inn.

Currently, 7,500 adults in West Hants do not have a Grade 12 diploma. The Hants Learning Network offers free classes to those wishing to upgrade their education level, as well as one-on-one tutoring to teach basic literacy skills. All programs are centered on the learner in a supportive manner. Applications are now being taken for fall programs.
