The Kentville Wildcats lost their second straight Wednesday night, falling 4-3 in 10 innings to the Truro Bearcats at Memorial Park in Kentville.

The loss tightened things considerably in the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League (NSSBL) standings. Even though Kentville still retained first as a result of a four-game winning streak to open the season, Truro and a surging Dartmouth Moosehead Dry were at 3-2 and only a half-game behind the league leaders heading into play last weekend.

A crucial match-up was scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday in Kentville when the Dry played a make-up game with the Wildcats.

Kentville opened the scoring in the first inning Wednesday, but the Bearcats answered with two in the top of the fifth to take the lead.

The advantage, however, was short-lived. The Wildcats evened things up in the bottom half of the inning and went ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth.

The seesaw battle continued into the eighth, when Truro plated another run to tie the score at three. That’s how things remained until the top of the 10th, when the Bearcats notched the go-ahead run and Kentville had no reply in their half of the inning.

Craig Higgins was the winning pitcher for Truro and Pete Sonier took the loss for Kentville.

John Chapman had two singles and two RBIs to lead the Bearcats offensively. Tyler Delaney and Jason Hoyt had a couple of singles each to pace the attack.

Nick Hill had three singles and an RBI for Kentville and Luke Smith hammered out a couple of singles in a losing effort.
