As superintendent Norman Dray put it, “the best of the best” of students in the region were honoured for their contributions to their schools, communities, and country.
On May 27, as Lieutenant Governor Mayann Francis was detained in Halifax, Chief Justice of Nova Scotia J. Michael MacDonald presented the Lieutenant Governor Awards to this year’s recipients from schools within the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board. The ceremony, held at Bridgetown Regional High School, honoured 16 young men and women who have achieved academic excellence, demonstrated leadership, and dedicated their time to serving others.
The medals are awarded annually to one female and one male student in Grade 11 from each high school across the province.
“The medals recognize academic achievement and demonstrated quality of leadership and service in the school and in the community,” explained MacDonald. “Today’s recipients are role models for us all. We adults, we can learn much from their example.”
The Chief Justice thanked BRHS for hosting the ceremony, and took the opportunity to applaud the school’s own record of excellence.
“Over its 57 years, this school has a well earned reputation for community involvement,” he said, “and I’m delighted that you have stepped up and taken on this event.”
