2008 Blossom Idol showcases talented Valley youth
The cool, windy weather didn’t dampen spirits for the 2008 Magic 94.9 FM Apple Blossom Idol competition Thursday evening. An estimated 650 people packed Kentville’s Memorial Park to take in performances from the 12 talented finalists, not to mention a performance by 2007 Idol and 2006 People’s Choice winner Teryn Fudge of New Ross. Dwight d’Eon, fourth place finisher in Canadian Idol, one of three judges for the event, surprised the crowd with an impromptu performance. Other judges included Gary Caven from Magic 94.9 FM and multi-ECMA award-winner John Gracie. Laura Trenholm of Wolfville took third place. She won the People’s Choice Award for the second straight year as well. Evan Mahaney of Prospect, the only male competitor, won second place and Demi Beaumier of Kingston was crowned the 2008 Apple Blossom Idol. Other competitors included Tracey Best, Hall’s Harbour; Florence Banman, Greenwood; Elizabeth Andrew, Kentville; Emily Rafuse, Windsor; Casey Maiden, Bridgetown; Sarah Burgess, Coldbrook; Emily Swinamer, Falmouth; Jenny Slauenwhite, Bridgetown; and Meghan Rumbolt-McNeil, Hantsport.
