The Wolfville Tritons successfully hosted the Swim Nova Scotia Future League championships for swimmers age 10-and-under May 24-25 in Wolfville.
Most of the Tritons who competed at the meet recorded multiple personal best times – the main focus at the Future League level – but 10-year-old Matthew Ingham stole the show.
He placed first in four of his six races: the 400 and 49 freestyle (a timed freestyle event), 200 backstroke and 100 Individual Medley; was second in the 200 free; and fourth in the 50 free. He swam four new personal best times and earned 245 points for his team.
Mac Muirhead, 8, also had a strong meet, placing fifth in the 50-metre breaststroke, sixth in the 49 free, eighth in the 100 IM and ninth in the 50 backstroke and also earning points for 13th and 14th place finishes. Muirhead recorded new personal best times in all six of his races and earned 54 points for top placings.
Kovi Young, 9, was fourth in the 49 free, the highest finish for a Wolfville swimmer other than Ingham and seventh in the 200 back. He also earned points for 12th, 14th and 15th place finishes. Young had four new PBs, and earned 37 points in all.
Jenna Hepburn, 8, placed sixth in the 49 freestyle and 10th in the 200 backstroke for a pair of top 10 finishes. Hepburn also had four new PBs and earned 24 points for her team.
Leigh Murphy, 10, was seventh in the 50 breaststroke and eighth in the 49 free and also had 13th and 14th place finishes. Murphy also managed six new PBs and earned 30 points.
Also earning points for at least one top-15 finish were Gabi Clark (10th in the 49 free), Matthew Comeau (13th in the 50 breast), Jennifer Vibert (11th in the 200 breast) and Will MacDonald (12th in the 50 breaststroke, 13th in the 49 free). Gabi Clark had four new PBs and Emma Clark, Arianna Young and Kayley England one each.
