MacDougall tops at Apple Blossom tennis tourney

Gary MacDougall won the men’s singles competition at the annual Apple Blossom tennis tournament May 24-25 in Wolfville.

MacDougall defeated David Humphreys 6-2, 6-0 in the men’s singles final after topping Paul Steele 6-3, 6-0 in the semi-finals. Humphreys advanced to the final with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Cale Woodworth.

In consolation play, Matt Tidcombe defeated Derek Hynes 6-3, 7-5.

The men’s doubles competition was a round robin. Steele and Humphreys defeated MacDougall and Dennis Boucher 6-2, 7-6. Steele and Humphreys also topped Tidcombe and Woodworth 7-5, 6-2 and Hynes and Cornelius Kampe 6-0, 6-0.

MacDougall and Boucher defeated Tidcombe and Woodworth 0-6, 6-4, 7-6, Tidcombe and Woodworth topped Hynes and Kampe 6-3, 6-3, and Hynes and Kampe defeated MacDougall and Boucher 2-6, 6-1, 7-5.

In women’s doubles, Laura Simko and Ilze Kampe defeated Pam Hickman and Diana Baldwin 6-1, 6-0.
