Reduction in Annapolis Basin closure
Fisheries and Oceans Canada advises this morning that the closure for the harvesting of bi-valve and gastropod molluscs for recreational or commercial purposes in Annapolis Basin is revised, effective immediately.
The following portion of Annapolis Basin remains closed to harvesting:
That portion inside a line drawn from grid reference 7920 5239 to grid reference 8050 5230 thence to grid reference 8300 4800 thence to grid reference 9136 4970 thence to grid reference 9190 4880.
The remainder of Annapolis Basin, known as Zone 2 and 3 is now open due to a decrease in levels of bactgeriological contamination that has an adverse effect on the shellfish growing areas within the Annapolis Basin.
Bivalve and gastropod molluscs are shellfish with two shells, and include oysters, clams (soft shell clams, razor clams, surf clams) mussels, scallops, and quahogs (bay and ocean) and whelks.
