A truck load of silly is coming to the Astor Theatre
Get ready for a “big truck load of silly” on May 29 at the Astor Theatre as Derek Edwards takes the stage at the start of his tour “the other shore drops.”
“I’m coming in with a new show,” he said, “just a big pile of new jokes.”
Brought up in a small town in Northern Ontario called, Timmons, Edwards declares himself a small town guy.
While entering into the comedy field, Edwards said he kept his day job for five years before making comedy a full time gig.
“The hook is, it’s really sweet to get a big laugh out of a group of strangers,” he said about being on stage.
He brings with him twenty years of comedy experience, having won best male standup at the Canadian Comedy Awards a few years ago as well as being the only Canadian to win the prestigious Vail at the Colorado Invitational Comedy Competition.
Edwards has seen his share of weird while on stage.
He recalls a man come in with a group of people, sit down and fall asleep during the show.
“I didn’t have the heart to give him any kind of trouble,” Edwards noted.
In fact it was the crowd who woke the man up, while giving Edwards a standing ovation.
“There’s all kinds of shades of weird,” he noted.
Edwards hits the road May 23 with his first show in Prince Edward Island.
The tour wraps up “on the rock in St. John’s,” Newfoundland, he said.
“I encourage people to come on out and have a chuckle,” he said, “I’m sure it will be a fun show.”
Tickets for the May 29 show at the Astor Theatre are available by calling the box office at 354-5250.
