Region of Queens Municipality wins partnership award
Having received tourism awards in the past, Region of Queens Economic Development Officer, Jill Cruikshank, described the 2008 Destination Southwest Nova Scotia Partnership Award as special.

“I think it’s great to be recognized by our tourism colleges within Southwest Nova and I thank them for the opportunity to meet a lot of the people who we’ve partnered with,” said Cruikshank.

Economic Director, Brian Baker and Cruikshank accepted the award on behalf of the Region of Queens on May 15.

The Southwest Awards Banquet took place at the Annapolis Basin conference centre in Cornwallis, said Cruikshank.

A few successful partnerships, which were behind the Regions nomination, include the partnership with Parks Canada and Annapolis Royal to promote Kejimkujik Scenic drive.

The partnerships for Coastal Queens Place, Port Medway Lighthouse Park and the Thomas Raddall Provincial Park.

Also the region has partnered with the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg, Municipality of the District of Chester and the St. Margaret’s Bay Tourism Association for the creation of brochures about the South Shore.

Other partnerships include the Tent Dwellers Centennial Festival 2008 and other organizations involved with the festival.

The region’s partnership with five Municipal units in Shelburne County created the Lighthouse Coast Committee.

“I would encourage all our tourism business to consider joining the association because that’s the kind of benefits they can get, to build relationships and improve their tourism product,” added Cruikshank.
