ER promise not kept, charges Theriault
Digby-Annapolis MLA Harold Theriault says Health Minister Chris d’Entremont has failed to keep a promise of 24 hour, seven day-a-week emergency room service at the Digby General.
During question period today, Theriault said the health minister make a commitment on Dec. 6 to keep Digby emergency room open as of January 2008.
“Commitments made in this house should be kept—the people of Digby expect nothing less,” said Theriault.
The Liberal MLA said the Digby ER will have been closed for at least 449 hours between Jan. 1 and the end of May.
After the equivalent of 19 days closed, Theriault said he wondered if the minister ever had any intention of keeping his commitment to Digby-area residents.
“The minister responsible assured us on the record that the Digby ER would remain open,” said Theriault. “Despite his pledge, the facility has been closed for 449 hours, a significant amount of time for a community to be without an ER.”

I know that some of the tasks ahead are rough (i.e. The Doctor shortage, the Ferry, the decline in fishing, the increase in gas, etc.) But I'm some glad that someone is talking on our behalf here in Nova Scotia.
