DRHS wins track and field district championship
For the first time in about three decades, the track and field team from Digby Regional High School has won the district championship, and downed its long-time rival.
Bridgetown Regional High School, which hosted the two-day event May 15-16, is the perennial champion, and the only competing school with a track, said Digby coach Kym Roy.

She was on the last Digby team to win the district title, and that was at the end of the 1970s or the early ’80s, she said today.

Digby’s 43-member team accumulated 1,254 points in the 16 events, followed by Bridgetown with 1,223. Middleton Region was third with 728 points.

In a strong fourth place was Islands Consolidated School with 558 points, followed by Annapolis Royal with 500, St. Mary’s Bay Academy with 351, and the small Clare contingent with 56.

The regional championships will be held next weekend, May 30-31, again at Bridgetown, and then provincial championships will be held the following weekend in Lower Sackville.
