New Tidal View could be taxed
There could be a solution for concerns about lost tax revenue when a new Tidal View is constructed.
At last week's regular meeting councillor Clifford Hood said he has learned that some newly constructed long-term care facilities in the province are paying municipal taxes at either full or reduced rates. Tidal View is exempt from such taxes and Hood has long voiced his concern that such an exemption would mean a significant loss of potential tax dollars when the new facility is complete.
He gave notice that at the next meeting he would make a motion requesting Yarmouth's MLA to ask the province to rescind Tidal View's tax-exempt status as it would apply to a new facility.
At that same meeting, council approved moving to a public hearing on the new facility.
