Fam tour provides whirlwind intro to local attractions
A fam tour designed to introduce tourism sector operators to local attractions took the group on a whirlwind tour of the region on May 6 and 7.
The business representatives, who participated in the South West Shore Development Authority’s total market readiness program, spent 15 minutes at 27 sites each day.
Tourism development officer Julie Grandy viewed the event as an opportunity for local operators to meet each other, see each other’s place of business and also see other tourism attractions in the area.
“A lot of this is increasing your partnership network and looking beyond our own small boundaries,” she said.
The group visited 12 accommodations, six restaurants, 14 attractions, two gift shops, three art gallerys, four golf courses, two festivals, one sightseeing tour, Bay Ferries and 12 “off-the-beaten-path” places.
The tour was a huge success, says Grandy.
“I could not have been more pleased--we were able to see the whole region and show people some new places and attractions that they didn't know existed. I think that people really got to see and understand the area,” she said.
