Kirkin' o' the Tartan June 8
On Sunday, June 8, the Covenanter Church in Grand-Pre will be the setting for the Kirkin’ o’ the Tartan service hosted by the Annapolis Valley branch of Clan Donald.
The heart of every service is the presentation of the Tartans of the various Clans. This follows the ancient Scots tradition of blessing Scottish families by blessing Clan Tartans and this year the Honored Clan will be MacGregor.
The impressive and colourful service is not only an opportunity for Scots to celebrate their heritage and history, but serves also as an exercise for peoples of all faith to wear and present their Tartan in a simple act of dedication. Our guest speaker will be the Rev. Doug MacEachern, Minister of the First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, N.S.
The service will be enhanced musically by a combined choir of the Gaelic students of Murdina McRae and members of the local Clan Donald Branch offering a Gaelic rendition of “Amazing Grace”, led by Maggie Keppie.
The historic Covenanter Church of 1812, located at 1989 Grand Pre Road, Grand-Pre, benefits from the collection taken on this day for its upkeep. Clan Donald extends a welcome to everyone to join in this service Sunday, June 8 at 2:30 p.m. and later to gather for a reception at John’s Anglican Parish Hall, 341 Main Street, Wolfville, N.S.
