Two suspects arrested and held in custody
The RCMP are investigating two alleged cases of arson following fires at two apartment units in town on Monday night.
Two adult male suspects have been arrested and are being held in custody while arson investigators carry out their investigation into the fires.
On the evening of May 19, at 7:35 p.m., members of the Yarmouth Town RCMP Detachment responded to a call for assistance from the Yarmouth Fire Department. The department was at the scene of an apartment building fire on Cliff Street.
According to the RCMP, while at the scene fire department personnel were informed of another structure fire involving an apartment building unit on Clements Street, located just down the street from the fire the department was already responding to.
Fire department and RCMP investigators have determined that these were set fires. The fires were put out by the fire department, with minimal damage to the structures.
The two suspects the police have arrested were both arrested at the scene.
The investigation continues.
