Foodbank a surprise raffle winner

It doesn’t make a difference where it comes from, but the Berwick Food Bank is glad someone thinking of them won a recent raffle.
The $1,200 top prize offered by the provincial Air Cadet League was won by a Berwick ticket-buyer - who wants to remain anonymous. He’d purchased the ticket from a customer, and filled it out in the food bank’s name.
It was the lucky winner.
“It was $1,200 or a big screen TV,” says Boyd Taylor, the league’s Western Region director.
The food bank knew which it would rather take.
“We’re going to buy food,” says volunteer manager Judy Holleman. “This is a slow time of year for us - for donations and cash coming in. We’re low.”
At the top of the grocery list are canned vegetables, dried pasta, juices and peanut butter.
“It doesn’t make a difference where the money comes from, Holleman says when asked about the surprise raffle win. “We’ll take it, from anyone, anytime. This is just great.”
The Air Cadet’s raffle raises money for individual units around the province for things such as cultural trips, and the provincial league, which sponsors larger programs, including the gliding school. The second place winner was Scott Muzzerall of Windsor, who had his choice of $700 or a laptop, and the third prize winner was Diana Kolody of East Gore, who won $100 or lobster.
