Seniors out for competition, challenge
The Kings County Senior games competition - friendly, though! - is underway, having started May 19 and continuing to May 29.
While rounds of auction 45s, crokinole, horseshoes and skip-bo have already been played, Berwick hosts the washer toss contest May 22 at 2 p.m. in Rainforth Park.
May 23, Canning hosts darts at 10 a.m. at the Legion and there will be an arts and crafts display and competition at the County Fair mall from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (drop off entries between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., and pick them up between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.).
The Coldbrook Community Hall will host an evening of crib, beginning at 7 p.m., May 26.
May 27, there is a walk and throw event at the Acadia track in Wolfville, beginning at 9:30 a.m. A “sentimental journeys” dance that evening at the New Minas fire hall runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
May 28, a bridge afternoon starts at 2 p.m. at the Port Williams Community Hall.
It’s a bowling morning May 29, beginning at 10 a.m. May 29 at Fairlanes in New Minas.
That evening, May 29 at 7 p.m., there will be a variety show and the awards presentation at the New Minas fire hall. Senior entertainers are encouraged to take part in the variety show with songs and skits.
Participants in any events are urged to pre-register with a local recreation department, but you may also sign up at the event. There are minimal fees - or none at all - for most of the activities. Call 681-6577 (New Minas Recreation) for information.
