Brown to headline country, old-time music concert
Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame member Chet Brown will headline the next installment of the St. Mary’s Concert Series this Saturday, May 17, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Aylesford fire hall.
Brown will be joined by some of his many musical friends and acquaintances, including Carroll Edwards, David Arenburg (who will also be donating the sound for the concert), Lois Lutz, Bonnie Daniels and Graham Moorehead.
The concert series committee is looking forward to an entertaining evening of old-time and country music.
“Our musical line-up not only includes some talented musicians, but also some of the most generous people around,” says committee member John DeCoste.
Brown in particular has made close to 500 benefit appearances throughout Nova Scotia since 1993. In 2003, the Greenfield, Kings Co. native was honored by Nova Scotia for his musical contributions to charity.
The remainder of the musicians on the bill are no less generous. “For some of our performers, this will be the third time they have done us a benefit concert,” DeCoste says. “We’re continually blown away by their generosity.”
Saturday’s concert is set to begin at 7:30, but DeCoste adds, “from our experience, concerts like this tend to be well-attended so it’s probably best to get there early.”
Admission to the concert is by freewill offering, with all proceeds to the St. Mary’s Parish Hall oil spill expense.
The Aylesford and District Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will be operating a canteen, and many of the performers will also have recordings of their music for sale, including Moorehead, who has recently released his first CD.
