Canoers safe
Two people are safe after they disappeared in Lake Rossignol near dark on May 8.
Queens RCMP Constable Grant Webber said, “it was four canoeists in two canoes, one got ahead of the other.”
The first canoe waited for their friends to show up where their vehicles were parked.
However the second canoe got lost when winds picked up and they ended up about seven kilometres from where they should of gone, he said.
Due to no cell coverage in the area, the group lost contact with one another.
The two canoers realized it was getting late so they found a camp and stayed there for the night.
Ground Search and Rescue was brought in about 10 p.m. that night.
A Department of Natural Resources spotted the two missing canoers around 4:30 a.m. the next morning.
The canoers were found unharmed.
“It’s difficult up there, I realize you don’t have the cell coverage so if you do get in trouble their should be a way of communication,” said Webber.
He suggests packing two way radios as well as sticking together with your group.
