Changes to Economic Development
The Region of Queens Municipality’s Economic Development and Tourism Department will change its name and make a few other changes.

“It’s interesting,” Mayor John Leefe began, “the old municipality did not have an economic development and tourism department. It did create a tourism department, I think it was sometime shortly after amalgamation.”

At the April 21 council meeting they approved three items.

One being that the Director of Economic Development and Tourism, Brian Baker put his name in to be on the Destination Southwest Nova Scotia board of Directors.

Secondly council approved to get rid of the Special Projects Coordinator job and replace it will the title Economic Development Officer.

Council also approved to change the name of the Department of Economic Development.

“Tourism is not an economic activity that is isolated from the other economic activities in the Region of Queens,” said Mayor Leefe. “It is a vital part of our economic activity here.”

The concept of economic development should incorporate and embrace tourism, he added.
