Saturday drive to help food bank
Lions clubs, firefighters going door-to-door
The Twelve Baskets Food Bank in Nictaux will be getting some help once again this weekend as Local Lions Clubs and firefighters scour the neighbourhood for non-perishable products from the general public. This annual event helps keep the shelves stocked. This Saturday, May 10, starting at 10 a.m., members from the Middleton and District Lions Club, the Lawrencetown and District Lions Club, and the Nictaux Volunteer Fire Department will be visiting door-to-door in the area.
Last year’s drive collected 3900 pounds of food and more than $3,000 in monitary donations, and organizers are hoping for even better results this year. The need is great, particularly for such items as canned pasta, small ketchup, kraft dinner, small peanut butter, canned beans, canned fruit, small store-bought jams, pancake mix, syrup, and canned vegetables.
A special thanks is extended to the Girl Guides from the Middleton and Nictaux area for delivering flyers from house to house and to the many volunteers from various organizations who will be doing the pickups on May 10.
Last year the food bank assisted 896 families and distributed 68,063 pounds of food, while local volunteers provided more than 2,400 hours of service.
Patrons may choose to give monetary donations, and cheques may be made payable to the Twelve Baskets Food Bank. Income tax receipts will be issued for amounts over $5. Further information is available by contacting Dave Diggins at 825-6152.
