Ferry service contribution
Region of Queens Municipality will contribute $1,950 towards the Digby-Saint John ferry service in an effort to keep it going.

“There are 20 municipal units that have supported the continuation of the Digby ferry service,” said Mayor John Leefe. “It is the only service in Western Nova Scotia that provides year around service.”

A Mariport Group consultant did a study the impact of the Digby-Saint John ferry has on Western Nova Scotia.

The study revealed the area would see an annual loss of over $40-million if the ferry service stopped.

Mayor Leefe said while the ferry service is essential for tourism it is also absolutely essential for the fishing, forestry and agriculture industries.

Needing $40,000 the Municipality of Digby is looking for contributions from 20 municipalities based on the municipalities uniform assessment.

The Region of Queens Municipality will contribute $1,950.

“We felt it’s an important investment on behalf of all of Western Nova Scotia and Queens County,” said the mayor.
