This will be the second year in a row for Barrington area residents to stretch their legs in support of those battling Cystic Fibrosis.
The Great Strides takes place on Sunday, May 25, with participants registering at the Barrington Library at 12:30 p.m., proceeding across the Cape Sable Island causeway at 1 p.m. then returning to the library for a barbecue and games for the children.

Organizer Bonnie Smith says this year Lynn Crowell will be walking with the group. The singer/song writer’s support is another example of the tremendous assistance Smith has received in organizing the walk locally.

For 20 years Smith, who has a daughter with CF, used to seek sponsors in the Barrington area and then participate in the Yarmouth CF walk.

“I decided to do it in Barrington because there are three adults with CF in the area. I wanted to give the families a chance to get involved,” said Smith.

Close to 15 participated last year and raised $1700 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Smith says she had tremendous support for the first year.

“I had to tell people to stop giving me prizes. It was overwhelming,” she said.

“It’s great if they donate cash for the cause too.”

This year, the first prize is a $100 gift card from Wilson’s Home Hardware for whoever brings the highest amount in.

Pledge forms are available at MacDonald Chisholm Trask Insurance at Parsons Mall, Dan’s Ice Cream and Lisa Atkinson’s gym at the old BMHS.
