Dangerous driving complaints, a cemetery theft and a tree fire in a truck
Yarmouth Town RCMP report
During April 14-27, the Yarmouth Town RCMP Detachment received 140 calls for service. This included nine false alarms, six theft under $5,000, three intoxicated in a public place, 11 causing a disturbance, six 911 hang-ups, four Mental Health Act investigations, four shoplifting, three motor vehicle collisions, six dangerous driving complaints, eight assaults, one sexual assault, six mischief/property damage, two counterfeit investigations and 15 other Criminal Code.

The following is a summary of some of the calls for service received:

•April 14, 1:03 a.m., received a call from Parade Street of what was believed to be an elderly female in need of a check of her well being, officers attended, entered the residence and it turned out there was a medical emergency. EHS was contacted.

•April 14, 8:50 p.m., received a complaint of two vehicles racing side by side on Starrs Road from McDonalds restaurant up to Pleasant Street. Officers attended, located one of the vehicles and spoke to the driver accordingly.

•April 15, 12:05 a.m., received a 911 call from Havelock Drive of a disturbance outside on the street involving six males. Offices attended, subjects gone on arrival, no witnesses.

•April 15, 10:13 p.m., received a report of a theft of licence plate from a vehicle that had been parked overnight at the Lobster Rock Wharf.

•April 15, 5:10 p.m., received a report of a dangerous driving on Starrs Road, between Brunswick and Main streets, involving a red Hyundai Accent. Patrol made, unable to locate vehicle.

•April 15, 6:52 p.m., received a report of a disturbance in south Yarmouth involving a group of youths that were yelling and swearing, patrol made, subjects gone on arrival.

•April 16, 4 a.m., officers received a call of a suspicious person laying on the lawn on Pleasant Street. Patrol made, a male in an intoxicated state was located behind the fire hall. Subject arrested and lodged in cell overnight.

•April 16, 7:24 a.m., assisted Yarmouth Rural Detachment at a house fire on Prospect Street, which was determined to be a set fire.

•April 16, 10:33 p.m., received a report from the school board reporting that at 8:43 a.m. on Vancouver Street, near Millstone Terrace, a brown Honda went through the red light on a school bus.

•April 16, 3:30 p.m., received a 911 call of five youths causing a disturbance in the Yarmouth hospital parking lot. Officers attended, located the people and dealt with them accordingly.

•April 16, 5:36 p.m., office received a call from the Milton Irving station of a shoplifting involving a 10-year-old boy. Subject was apprehended and spoken to by officers, along with his parents.

•April 16, 7:53 p.m., report of a dangerous driving incident at Main and Vancouver streets.

•April 17, 9:23 a.m., while officers were on patrol they witnessed a male subject urinating on the wall of the Rodd Grand Hotel. Person spoken to, he was intoxicated, arrested and lodged in a cell.

•April 17, 1:05 p.m., received a report of a vehicle hit and run at the hospital parking lot. A 2005 Chevy Optra received over $1,000 in damage. Anyone with information on this matter can contact the detachment.

•April 18, 9:15 a.m., received a call about a fight in progress on Main Street in front of a financial institution between two females, officers attended and dealt with the situation.

•April 18, 2:56 p.m., received a report of an overnight break and enter to one of the new Village homes on Starrs Road.

•April 19, 12:23 a.m., call to assist the fire department regarding grass fires that have been set in the Argyle Street area.

•April 19, 2:17 a.m., received a 911 call of a report of a male behind the YMCA with a broken leg. Officers attended, turned out the individual had broken his ankle after stepping in a pothole, contacted EHS, transported to the hospital.

•April 19, 9:48 a.m., received a call of overnight property damage at the Yarmouth Links, garbage can had been smashed, damage around pro shop.

•April 21, 2056, report of possible counterfeit bills made by a business at the Yarmouth Mall, officer attended and seized the bills, under investigation.

•April 25, 7:49 a.m., a report of a theft at the Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery on Parade Street. Vandals had stolen 96-year-old copper down spouts from the chapel on the cemetery grounds. Still being investigated, anyone with information is asked to contact the detachment.

•April 25, 2:47, received a 911 call of a subject with a gun on Forest Street near Rock Cottage, officers attended and determined the person was using an air pellet rifle gun to exterminate rats. He was spoken to.

•April 26, 2:50 a.m., received a 911 call from a taxi driver that a truck was on fire on Pleasant Street in front of the fire department. Officers attended, discovered that an old dried up tree in back of a truck was on fire.

•April 26, 9:50 a.m., received a call about overnight property damage on Clements Street, a bird bath valued at $400 had been destroyed.

•April 26, 1:38 p.m., call of property damage from Murphy Avenue reporting that a windshield and a window of a pick-up truck had been broken overnight.

•April 26, 7:51 p.m., report that the back window of a vehicle had been smashed.
