The 21st Annual Fieldwood Heritage Dinner was held to a sell-out crowd at the Canning Lions Hall Sat., April 26.

The delicious dinner consisted of a pig roast by Meadowbrook Farm with marvelous accompaniments by Debbie Arbuckle and friends that was served by local students. They were impressive, as always.

The main course food was produced locally except for the fresh pears, and the desserts and hors d'oeuvres were donations as always. The wine was from the Blomidon winery. The fantastic show by the Berwick Belles and Beaus was well received and they were joined by square dancers from several other groups.

A silent auction was also very successful, with many attractive items available for bidding. The 2008 Honourary Life Member is Everett MacPherson.

Thanks goes out to all who came, donated and volunteered to make the annual dinner a continued success.

Fieldwood Heritage Matters Lottery Winners: Gerry Anderson was the Grand Prize winner of $1,000; along with winners Andrew Bagley, Carol Law, Julia Murphy, Susan Potter and Barbara Watts, who received a second prize of $100 each.

Two Planks and a Passion Theatre Company: The April 26 annual fundraiser, Black and White: Silents are Golden, was a huge success at Ross Creek Centre for the Arts.

The evening revolved around an auction with the wonderfully entertaining auctioneer, Artistic Director Ken Schwartz. Black and white movies played silently in the background in keeping with the black and white theme.

The proceeds of $21,000 will go toward the 2008 summer season of Theatre Off the Grid.

A special thanks goes out to all the artists, businesses and volunteers who made the evening a success.

Theatre off the Grid: In 2007, Two Planks created the award-winning outdoor theatre production The Odyssey, directed by Schwartz. This year, Schwartz is planning two outdoor productions at Ross Creek: Our Town, by Thornton Wilder; and Jerome: a Historical Spectacle by award-winning novelist and playwright Ami McKay.

Professional Gallery: Tony Myers was present May 4 for the opening reception of his works “Journey to the Border.” His artwork draws on printmaking traditions of several centuries that include the exploration of the “language of birds” and the bird as messenger. The exhibition examines the border between the physical and the spiritual worlds and will be on display until June 22.

Open Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; weekends by appointment or chance. For further information call 582-3842 or visit www.artscentre.ca.
