Workshop celebrates young imaginations
More than 100 students from southwestern Nova Scotia are expected to participate in a workshop for young writers May 16 in Digby Regional High School.
The workshop is in memory of Alex Bull, a grade 11 student at the school who lost his life in an accident. Bull was a talented writer and aspiring actor.
Eight authors will share their insights with grade 7 to 12 students at the workshop.
The writers, whose works include fiction, non-fiction, play writing, story telling and poetry, are Catherine Banks, Jenni Blackmore, Katia Canciani, Sandra Phinney, Darcy Rhyno, Steve Vernon, Alice Walsh and Clyde A. Wray.
Workshop organizer Anna-Marie MacKenzie Kelly notes that May 16 is an in-service day, so students will need to arrange their own transportation to attend.
Young writers will have an opportunity to participate in three workshops during the course of the day.
There is no cost to participate in the workshop but donations will be accepted to the Alex Bull Memorial Fund. The fund will make it possible for workshops in future years.
