Three dredging projects for P.E.I.’s North Shore
Three dredging projects will begin immediately to provide fish harvesters on the North Shore of Prince Edward Island with improved navigation and safe access to the lobster fishery opening May 1.

Harbour channels have infilled with sand over the winter, making navigation treacherous. Emergency dredging of the entrance channels at Tracadie and Covehead in Queens County will begin immediately.

Work to ensure fish harvesters at Malpeque in Prince County can navigate safely will begin as soon as ice and weather conditions allow.

The Government of Canada is investing $330,000 in the dredging projects, and all are expected to be complete by May 1.

These projects will be implemented by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans as part of its Small Craft Harbours Program in cooperation with the Harbour Authorities that manage and operate the facilities for local users. Close cooperation with clients allows the federal government to continue to provide an operable system of harbours and facilities throughout Canada in support of commercial fish harvesters.
