Residents of the Town of Yarmouth will have at least two choices for mayor when the municipal elections roll around in October.
Phil Mooney, a former downtown merchant, is expected to announce on Friday that he will seek the town's top office and challenge long-time mayor Charles Crosby.
Mooney is no stranger to the political scene. A former town councillor, he is also a member of one of the province's staunchest Liberal families. His father, Fraser, was once the area's MLA and served as a cabinet minister. His uncle, Bill, was at one time mayor of Yarmouth and his aunt, Aurel, served as a councillor for the Municipality of Yarmouth.
Crosby, who has sat at the centre of the table in town hall for 20 years, is on record as saying he would seek one final term in office.
