Weeks Crushers win Fred Page Cup
The MJAHL will be represented at the Royal Bank Cup in Cornwall, Ontario, but not by the team the Yarmouth fans had hoped or expected to send.
The Pictou County Weeks Crushers defeated the reigning Fred Page Cup champion Pembroke Lumber Kings 4-1 during the Fred Page Cup championship final on Sunday.
Pictou advanced to the final after defeating the Yarmouth Mariners the night before by a score of 4-2.
The Crushers will now travel to Cornwall to represent the East region at the 2008 Royal Bank Cup – Canadian National Junior A Championships on May 3rd through 11.
Jordan Knox led the Crushers with 2 goals during the Fred Page Cup final.
Knox was the Crushers Player of the Game while Patrick Millette was the Lumber Kings Player of the Game.
Pictou County went 0 for 3 on the powerplay while Pembroke went 0 for 5.
The Crushers Alexandre Quessy stopped 31 of 32 shots for the win while the Lumber Kings Paul Beckwith stopped 25 of 28 shots in the loss.
