The 10 anniversary of the Great Little Art Show kicked off Friday, April 18, with a wine and cheese reception at the Avon River Heritage Museum in Avondale. Paul Collins of Nova Scotia Tourism, Culture and Heritage opened the weekend-long event, which showcased original works by 45 local artists.
There was a tremendous amount of talent on display and the event attracted a full house of admirers. For the past decade, the event has worked to promote the visual arts in Hants County and raise funds for the Avon River Heritage Society, while providing the venue for professional and novice artists to display and sell their work.
Spearheaded by local resident Connie Greenough, the show has grown each year through the efforts of organizer and curator Andrew Fisher. The show is the Avon River Heritage Society’s largest fundraiser with revenues from the event going directly toward the museum’s operations including the Lydia and Sally Tearoom Café and the Planter’s Sea Chest Gift Shop, which markets the works of local artists.
