Department experiences busy three days

Beginning at 5:24 p.m., April 14, the YFD received a call to 74 Main St., for a report of smoke throughout a portion of the building. An unattended pot on a stove was found to be the cause. Smoke was cleared with no apparent fire damage. On April 16, a 4 a.m. a call reporting a structure fire was received by YFD dispatch. Engine 4 was toned down as there was no fire. At 7 a.m. on April 16 the Yarmouth Department was paged out for a structure fire on Prospect Street. Upon entering the lower floor, three separate fires were discovered. These were knocked down very quickly without any significant damage, but plenty of smoke. The Deputy Fire Marshal, RCMP and YFD are investigating. And again on the 16th, Engine 4 responded to the Tinkham Road for a grass fire that appeared close to one home. No damage to property. Five other grass fires were responded to after the supper hour.

YFD ASSISTS FOOD BANK

The Yarmouth Fire Department is one of a number of organizations who yearly conduct a food drive for the Yarmouth food bank. The members along with food bank volunteers wish to thank all those who contributed food and money.

BOWLING PLAYOFFS

Even after Wedgeport postponed their third match, they needed only a total under 1300 to advance to the "A" section finals. East Pubnico's total of 4750 (3 rounds) and Wedgeport leave Naiad third and out of the playoffs with a total of 4501. Wedgeport's make up match will take place after this column goes to press. The "B" section finals got under way with the village of Carleton's two teams going at it. Carleton #1 with a 1525 total took the first of a 3 of 5 series from Carleton #2- 1443. And in the "C" section the Ladies are on top 2-1 with a 1350 - 1261 win over Salmon River. For a number of years these two teams have battled it out for the top prize. Curley Kristensen rolled a 134 single and Hank Nickerson ended his season with a nice 376 triple.
