Saint John councillor concerned for ferry
Quotes source as saying no new money for Digby-Saint John service
Canadian Press is carrying a story this afternoon from Saint John quoting a municipal politician who says he has heard “from a reliable source” that no new money will be awarded to the Saint John-Digby ferry ferry operation once the current arrangement is completed. See here

Ottawa and the provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick extended a financial assistance package to Bay Ferries to run the service until the end of next January.
Saint John city councillor Ivan Court says his city is sending a letter to the federal minister of transportation demanding more information. Court said he has serious concerns about the possible termination of the service.
"It is an important gateway between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, not only for the fisheries or the gateway to the United States, but for university students who come here to Saint John," Court said in the CP story.
Ottawa’s recent budget mentioned over $17 million for the Newfoundland-Labrador service, but said nothing about the Saint John-Digby service.

Comment online since April 18th 2008It was not that long ago that we attended the rallies, sent the postcards, spoke in the media and lobbied the politicians with respect to this issue. Now here we go again! In eight months if nothing changes this link will be gone. We must coordinate a plan to ensure that this does not happen.
