The Cornwallis District New Horizon Canning Seniors’ Group will host a “Senior’s Musical” Wed., April 23 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the Canning Lions Hall featuring country and western music by David Arenburg and Friends. There will be a 50/50 ticket sale and refreshments.

Admission is a cash or non-perishable donation for the food bank. All seniors 55 and older are invited and encouraged to attend.

The Seniors’ Group meets each Wednesday from 1:30-4 p.m. at the Lions Hall in Canning. Seniors age 55 and up are invited to join. Annual fee only $5.

New: the Canning Seniors have purchased a computer and will be teaching basic computer and Internet skills to those interested. This is a free service for members. Contact 582-7346 for details.

The Fieldwood Heritage Society 21st Annual Dinner will be Sat., April 26 at the Canning Lions Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m.

The entertainment for the evening will be the Berwick Belles n Beaus Square Dancers. There will also be a silent auction, local wine for sale, door prizes, a cash bar and the draw for the Heritage lottery.

Tickets are $25 and are available from Jordan’s Home Furnishings, Canning, or any Fieldwood Director. For information call Roleen at 582-3501 or Bonnie at 582-3873.

Reminder: Heritage Matters Lottery Tickets are still available at $20 each, or 6 for $100. You don't have to attend the dinner to win.

Ross Creek Centre for the Arts invites everyone to an open house and volunteer celebration Thurs., April 24 from 3:30-6 p.m. in preparation for the busy summer season. Beginning with an announcement about the volunteer of the year, tours to explore and get to know Ross Creek will follow. Feel free to bring along your friends!

Family Arts Sunday: From costumed crusaders to monkeys and mayhem, come explore the world of masks and mystery May 4 from 1-4 p.m. in preparation for Apple Blossom. Various masks activities and costume creations as well as a giant puppet-building workshop. Open to all ages. Admission is pay what you can with a suggested donation of $5 per person or $15 per family.

Learn to dance with the cast of Hairspray: If you loved the movie then here’s your chance to learn from the pros. The program is taught by featured actor/dancers from the film and will include four hours of class, learning four different dances from the film.

The workshop is choreography specialized meaning students will learn choreography used in the film and will focus not only on dance techniques but also on characterization and acting.

Two programs are available at a cost of $100 per class and will be held April 29 or 30th from 4-8 p.m. each evening. Space is limited. For more information call 582-3842 or visit www.artscentre.ca.

Bookmobile returns to the Canning Lions Hall Tues., April 29 from 7-8 p.m.

Sunday Flea Markets at the Canning Lions Hall: The hall is open to sellers from 6-8 a.m. and buyers from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tables are $5 each and a canteen is available. Contact Don at 678-5525 for details.

A Benefit Gospel Show will be held May 4 at 2 p.m. at the Canning fire hall. Come out and show your support for a cancer patient in need. There will be great local talent including Matt Lunn, Lois Lutz and Graham Moorehead.

Canning Legion: Wednesday Jam Sessions are held upstairs at the Legion from 7-10 p.m. Canteen available. Freewill offering, wheelchair accessible. Everyone is welcome to attend. Contact 582-7246 for information.

A blood collection clinic takes place at the Canning Pharmasave Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-10 a.m. at a cost of $6. A free monthly cholesterol and blood pressure clinic is also available. Seniors’ day is the last Thursday of the month.

Glooscap Elementary School: In addition to saving grocery receipts for the library, students can also collect receipts from Boston Pizza in New Minas, who are supporting fundraising efforts at the school by giving back five per cent from any meal receipts collected.

“Box of Delights” book fair: The spring fair will be held during the week of April 21-25. Parents will be able to purchase books on the evening of the 24th and the morning of the 25th. To volunteer, contact the school library at 582-2014 or the office at 582-2010. Any help will be appreciated.

Art Fair: the 11th annual art fair will be held at the MacDonald Museum in Middleton. Students from every AVRSB schools will participate by submitting artwork. Opening reception April 17 at 7 p.m. and will run until May 5. Weekdays from 10:30-5 p.m. and evenings 7-8:30 p.m.

Northeast Kings Educational Centre: The High School Parent/Teacher interviews will be held Thurs., April 24 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and again Friday from 1-3 p.m. There will be no school for Grades 9-12 and there will also be a Music Parent Association meeting at 7 p.m. in the library April 25. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

“Music on the Road”: A special thanks goes out to the senior music students, staff, and family and friends for making the April 4 music night fundraiser presented in Wolfville a huge success. Thanks also to the contributors of baked goods for the sale.

Proceeds went toward the senior music trip to Montreal planned for May. Everyone had a good time.

“It Starts with Me”: A special thanks goes out to organizer Angela Morrison, and to all students, staff, family and friends for their participation in this fundraiser that raised $1,028.50 toward music student expenses.
