ROBERTSON, John Alexander (Major Ret.) - 83, of Kingston, NS passed away March 11, 2008 at Valley Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Moncton, October 27, 1924, he was the son of the late Charles and Marjorie (Magee) Robertson. His love of music began very early in life as a member of the St. George’s Anglican Church Boy’s Choir in Moncton, and soon learned to play piano and graduated to the pipe organ. He said that the organ had a soul and studied passionately his whole life. At various times he was a member of Canadian College of Organists, the Nova Scotia Choral Federation and Kings Choral. He joined the Military during the Second World War as a navigator and flew submarine patrols out of Tor Bay, Newfoundland. After the war he returned to Moncton, Re-joining the Air Force in 1949. He served at numerous bases across Canada eventually settling in the Greenwood area, retiring in 1971. He was a church organist for 35 years. Many brides walked up the aisle lead by his beautiful music. He also had wonderful choirs and numerous broadcasts on the local radio station at Christmas. He played for many years after, filling in wherever needed. He built and operated Hillcrest Store for 14 years, and then operated a craft supply store until his final retirement in 1990. He was past President of the Greenwood Curling club, past Treasurer of the Middleton Curling club and enjoyed playing various bonspiels around the province, especially Baccaro. After his retirement he enjoyed spending winters in Dunedin, Florida, where he and Louisa were active members of the Lake Highlander Shuffleboard Club. He enjoyed baseball and was a strong fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Louisa Alexander, daughter Sharon Robertson Hatt, Kingston; son Lawrence “Larry” (Darlene) Calgary, AB; grandchildren Angie, Lori, Natalie and Shanara. He was predeceased by half brother Charles. A celebration of his life was held Friday, March 14, 2008 in Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Middleton. Father Michael McKeage and Rev. SABEAN, Violet Muriel - 92, of Port Lorne, passed away, Wednesday, April 2, 2008 in the Northhills Nursing Home, Granville Ferry. Born in Port Lorne, she was a daughter of the late Joshua and Lillian (Taylor) Sabean. She was a member of the Emmanuel Congregational Christian Church, Middleton. Violet is survived by her daughter, Sheila Lewis, Berwick; grandchildren, Cynthia Kenneally (James Sherman), Berwick; Tammy Lewis, Prince George, BC; Randy Lewis (Joann Pineo), Bridgewater; Valerie (Gordon) Mitchell, Port Lorne, five great grandchildren; special friends, Rocky and Debbie Hebb and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard; son-in-law, Robert Lewis; sisters, Leona and Esther; brothers, Edwin, Hillard and Gilford. Visitation was held Saturday, April 5, 2008 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448, where the funeral service was held Sunday, April 6, 2008, Rev. Dr. William MacDougall officiated. Interment in the Fundy View Cemetery, Port Lorne. By request, family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to a Charity of Choice. STULTZ, John Daniels - 84 of Lawrencetown, NS, passed away, Monday, March 31, 2008 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Hackensack, New Jersey, he was a son of the late Nelson and Minnie (Daniels) Stultz. John worked until his retirement for C.R. Beals Meats & Groceries, Lawrencetown as a meat cutter. He was a past deputy chief with the Lawrencetown and District Volunteer Fire Department; a former commissioner with the Village of Lawrencetown; veteran of the Second World War; member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch #112 Lawrencetown; past member of the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church choir, the Lawrencetown Men’s Choir; past custodian and director of Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. John was also an avid naturalist, photographer, and amateur local historian. He loved spending time at his property in Inglisville and his camp in Roxbury, working with his market garden and roadside stand, growing vegetables, making maple syrup and his Christmas wreaths. He is survived by his daughter, Rosemary (Jim) Jotcham, Somerset, NS; grandchildren, Catherine Jotcham, Somerset; Andrew (Julie) Jotcham, Coldbrook; great grandson, Keagan and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Marion Slauenwhite and brother, Vernon. Visitation was held Tuesday, April 1, it began with a Legion Tribute conducted by Royal Canadian Legion, Lawrencetown Branch # 112 all in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. A graveside service was held at Wednesday, April 2 in the Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. Rev. Barbara Bishop officiated, followed by a reception in the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church Hall. By request, family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown United Baptist Church or to the charity of choice.
