It promises to be the most star-studded line-up of wrestlers to ever appear at a MainStream Wrestling Entertainment (MSW) show in Windsor, and the much-anticipated main event will be contested within the confines of a steel cage.
The history-making match, the first steel cage match in the history of the town, will feature the team of four-time Atlantic Canadian champion “X-Ray” Kyle Kruze and long-time Maritime main-eventer “Kowboy” Mike Hughes, a former WWE performer and national TV star on The Fight Network’s Wrestling Reality, taking on “Lumber” Jack Johnson and current Atlantic Canadian Champion Sidewalk Sam, with his manager Papi.
Hughes and Kruze issued the steel cage challenge following a tag-team match between the two teams in Windsor in February.
The show, coming up at the War Memorial Community Centre on Friday night, April 25, is part of the promotion’s annual spring tour of Atlantic Canada, which will include Labrador for the first time. MSW owner and promoter Devin Chittick, who wrestles as Kruze, said it’s always great to see the strong emotional reaction of the wrestling fans in Windsor and, just when they thought they’d seen it all, MSW is bringing a cage match to town.
“A match of this magnitude has never been done in Windsor and it will be a historic night for the town,” Chittick said. “This is the single biggest line-up to ever come to Windsor and it is not to be missed! We’re going to write a memorable page in wrestling history here on Friday, April 25.”
Match more brutal
Chittick said the steel cage match would be more brutal than the flaming tables match in 2006 because you could conceivably be thrown into the cage on several occasions during the event, as opposed to only having to worry about getting burned once in flaming tables. He is concerned for his own safety and for the safety of Hughes but they are prepared both mentally and physically to meet the challenge.
He is extremely excited to be teaming with Hughes for such a big match and said he would be relying on Hughes’ past experience in steel cage matches to make it through to the end. Chittick said he thinks fans will be very impressed with their performance.
In another bomb-shell development, two-time former WWE World Women’s Champion and former ECW star Jazz has been signed to appear on the tour, including the Windsor event. International female sensation Portia Perez has been signed as well.
“Be aware and be prepared,” Jazz, who has appeared twice at Wrestlemania, warned any potential opponents. She has visited the Maritimes before but this will be her first wrestling tour of Atlantic Canada. She has never been away from home for such a long period before, three weeks.
Women’s world champ
Jazz had always dreamed of becoming the women’s world champion -- and becoming world champion is what every wrestler dreams of. She points out that she never lost the title in the ring: she was stripped of it.
Jazz said she loves wrestling for independent promotions because she can be herself and have more fun. To her, that is more important than anything and she wants to put on a good show. The only difference to her, compared to wrestling for the WWE, is that there aren’t 30,000 people in the building for an independent show. She is still very aggressive but says fans in Atlantic Canada would see a different side of her in the ring.
“When I go out there, it’s game time,” she said. “I face every opponent the same.”
The seven-foot-tall, 300-pound MSW Champion Giant Grimez will defend his title against former WWE performer and long-time MSW star Quinson Valentino. The legendary Doink the Clown is scheduled to appear, as well as Transformer Shockwave The Robot, and much more. Hants County’s own “Captain” Kirk will be the ring announcer.
Advance tickets are available at the sponsor location, Dooly’s Windsor, and admission is payable at the door the evening of the event. The doors open around 7 p.m. and the opening bell is expected around 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are $12 for ringside, $10 for adult and $7 for kids 12 and under. For more information, visit
