Northeast Kings is still the school to beat in district individual badminton competition.

Host NKEC took 11 of 15 competitions at the junior, intermediate and senior levels at the district individual competition April 7 in Canning: four of five events at the junior level, three of five in intermediate and four of five at the senior level.

Pine Ridge made inroads in winning two events at the junior level, and added two runner-up finishes. Horton and Wolfville won one event each in intermediate, and Horton’s Justin Barkhouse won the senior boys’ singles.

The top two in each event at each level qualified for the regional competition Saturday in Bridgewater (the team competition goes Friday, also in Bridgewater).

The top finishers in both the team and invididual regional competitions this weekend qualify for NSSAF badminton provincials April 18 and19 at Citadel High in Halifax.
