Canning firefighters rescued a man who apparently became stranded in the mud off Huston’s Beach in Blomidon early April 4. Deputy Chief Scott Cruickshank said firefighters responded with the department’s two four wheelers and were able to reach the man and rescue him.

New Minas Fire Chief James Redmond said his department was called out to the same emergency April 4 as a water rescue, but firefighters were turned around when they reached Jaw Bone Corner outside Canning as the stranded man had been rescued.

Canning responded to a call for medical assistance on Pereau Road, Pereau, April 2.

Canning firefighters responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a car and utility pole on Main Street, Canning, April 4. One individual was transported to hospital with undetermined injuries.

New Minas firefighters responded to a call about propane leaking from a forklift in the Superstore parking lot April 4. The forklift was being used to help set up the garden centre.

Wolfville Fire Chief Tim MacLeod said his department responded to a chimney fire at Acton’s on Main Street March 31 at 7:02 p.m. Firefighters had to dig into the wall and ceiling area adjacent to the fireplace. The establishment had to close temporarily, as some water damage was incurred and the chimney needs a new steel liner. There were 20 firefighters at the station for training when the call came in, resulting in an exceptionally quick response.

Wolfville firefighters responded to a building alarm sounding on Main Street April 2 at 9:53 p.m. It turned out to be a non-event.

Kentville Fire Chief Shawn Ripley said his department investigated a complaint about someone burning garbage in Centreville March 31.

Kentville was called to an apparent propane emergency at Camp Aldershot April 1, but it turned out to be a false alarm.

Kentville firefighters responded to a transformer fire at the seniors’ apartments on Oakdene Avenue April 1. Ripley said the transformer exploded, putting the lights out at the seniors’ apartments.

Ripley said his department responded to 25 calls during the month of March and has responded to a total of 100 calls so far in the calendar year 2008.
