The court has sentenced a Kings County man to five years in custody following a rash and break and enters and thefts in several communities in February and March.

Zachary Dean McEwan, 30, Miner Meadow Road, Kings County, entered guilty pleas April 1 to 15 counts of committing break and enter and committing the indictable offence of theft, and one count of unlawfully possessing hydromorphone, a drug listed in Schedule 1 of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Judge Claudine MacDonald sentenced McEwan to a total of five years in custody on the 16 charges April 1, including three months custody, to be served consecutively, for the charge of unlawful drug possession.

McEwan committed the offence of unlawful possession of hydromorphone in New Minas March 3, 2008. The 15 offences of committing break and enter and the indictable offence of theft were committed on Gospel Woods Road Feb. 19, 2008; on Black Rock Road Feb. 25, 2008; on Poplar Drive Feb. 26, 2008; on White Rock Road Feb. 27, 2008; on Highway 12, South Alton, Cambridge Mountain Road and Belcher Street Feb. 28, 2008; and on Highbury School Road, White Rock Road Forsythe Road South, Murray Street, Brow Mountain Road and Prospect Road, Kings County March 3, 2008.
