Grease runs over two weekends - March 29 and 30 and April 3 and 4 - at Horton High School in Greenwich. Show time is 7 p.m., except for the March 30 matinee at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 students and seniors.

Fruitful time for music

This is the time of year when music students at Acadia University offer up the fruits of what they have learned over the academic year.

This weekend, for example, the Singing Theatre Production Ensemble will present a classic entertainment, Gilbert and Sullivan's “The Mikado.” Directed by Mary Lou Martin and Tara Scott, this production by music theatre students will go on stage March 29 and then March 30 at 3 p.m. in Denton Hall.

Then, April 3, the Acadia Jazz Ensemble, directed by Mark Adam, will perform at 8 p.m. in

Denton Hall.

Last in series

The Acadia Performing Arts Series will present the finale of this year’s series with Edo-King Matwawana & Afro-Musica March 29 at 8 p.m. at the Festival Theatre in Wolfville.

The 2008/ 09 series will also be announced at this performance.

Tickets are $26, $17 (students) and are available at the Acadia Box Office at 542-5500 and at the door. Any remaining tickets will be available at 7 p.m. March 29 for half-price (adults) and only $10 for students.

In the cinema

Fundy Film will be showing Atonement this Sunday and Monday. The film is based on British writer Ian McEwan’s acclaimed 2001 novel by the same name.

The Spring Series opens with Eastern Promises, David Cronenberg's multi-award-winning drama that tells a harrowing tale of murder, deceit and retribution tied to a notorious Russian organized crime family in London. It will screen at the Al Whittle Theatre, Wolfville, April 6, 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets ($8) available 30 min before screening.

Fundy Film's Spring Series pre-paid ticket sale is March 29. Six-packs will be sold from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the theatre lobby and will be available at all Fundy Film screenings from March 30 through April 14, and at Light & Shadow Video, April 1 to 14. A 6-Pack (six tickets) is $36 and may be used for all regular spring program films.

At CentreStage

The latest CentreStage play, Don’t Dress for Dinner, makes the touchy subject of infidelity amusing.

Bernard is planning a weekend with his sexy mistress in a French farmhouse in the countryside. What could possibly go wrong?

This fast-paced farce, written by Marc Camoletti and adapted by Robin Hawdon, will be playing from April 4 to May 17 and is bound to have the audience in stitches right from the beginning. The play features David Lane, Branaghlee Lane, Franklin Sherrard, Trina Long, Mindy Vinqvist-Tymchuk and Ernie Robinson.

“The humor should appeal to anyone teen and up,” Vinqvist-Tymchuk says, but cautions anyone thinking of bringing pre-teen children should be clear the show “is there for entertainment, not moral lessons, and some of the situations may simply go over their heads.”

Directed by Brian Stoddard, Don’t Dress for Dinner runs Friday and Saturday nights until May 17, beginning at 8 p.m., with a preview show April 3 and a matinee May 11 at 2 pm. For reservations, call 678-8040.

Music on the Road

April 4, the Northeast Kings Education Centre’s music department will give a concert at the Al Whittle Theatre in Wolfville.

Show time is 8 p.m. Tickets are $10/ $8 students (available from all senior music students), or at the door.

Country Hall of Fame will meet in Wolfville

The extraordinary general membership meeting for the N.S. Country Music Hall of Fame has been rescheduled for April 5 at 11 a.m.

The meeting is set for the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 74, 310 Main Street, Wolfville.

In Berwick

Black Hen Recording artist from Vancouver Steve Dawson will be launching his new CD, Waiting for the Lights to Come Up, April 5 at the Union Street Café in Berwick.

Performing with him will be Jenny Whiteley.

Opera on screen

Live high definition opera from the Metropolitan Opera in New York will be shown at the Empire Theatre in New Minas. Puccini’s La Boheme is April 5 and Donazetti’s La Fille du Regiment April 26.

Carmina Burana

April 6, the Acadia Symphonic Band, Acadia University Chorus, and guest choir Kings Chorale will present Carmina Burana.

Ardith Haley is conductor, with assistance from Kay Greene. Michael Caines and Bill Perrot are the two choral conductors.

The concert will be at 3 p.m. in Festival Theatre. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 students and seniors.

Concert coming

The Kings Community Concert Band, with special guests Scotia Brass, will present Show Time April 7 at 7 p.m.

Music from the movies and Broadway will fill the program at the Wolfville Baptist Church. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Heads up for Dylan show

Willpower Theatre is bringing its Bob Dylan tribute show to the Valley for two concerts April 19.

Get your tickets soon if you are a Dylan fan! This show sold out five days ahead of it first performance in Antigonish in February, so another was set for April 18 and it's already sold out - without any posters going up.

“It really was quite an incredible concert, with people coming out of the woodwork that we'd not even been aware of. The audience stood several times during the show and gave it a rousing standing ovation at the end,” says Willpower’s Shelley Thompson.

Proceeds from the concert of musical talent from Northern N.S. will support Willpower’s bringing two Festival Antigonish plays to the Valley Sept. 8 through 14.

The two Dylan concerts are set for 7 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. at the Al Whittle Theatre in Wolfville. Tickets are $15 at The Box of Delights.
