Choirs join for special service
Singers from Digby churches were rehearsing Saturday for their performance as a mass choir next Sunday in Trinity Anglican Church.
This is the sixth year for such a mass choir, which is organized by the Digby Ministerial.
Taking part are the choirs from Wesleyan Church, Digby Baptist, St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic, Grace United and Trinity, led by choirmaster Doug Hales.
Joining the church choirs will be the community choir, Fundy Chorale, under the direction of Deidre Morrell-Ormerod.
During a rehearsal Saturday, Jason McCutcheon of the Wesleyan Church said the mass choir normally performs on Palm Sunday, the Sunday before Easter. This year, Easter came much earlier than usual so the choirs delayed their joint effort, and also switched venue from Digby Baptist.
“It’s our first year holding the service at Trinity Anglican Church. They’ve got a great sanctuary here. We’d love to fill it if we could. We’ve always been kind of packed out at Digby Baptist.”
Each choir will bring some music of its own, he said, and added there will be a variety of music.
Coming out of Easter, it will be a time to focus on the commonalities of the churches involved, said McCutcheon.
