Pictou upsets Truro, will face Yarmouth in Bent finals
The (3)Pictou County Weeks Crushers (4-2) doubled the (2)Truro Bearcats (2-4) 4-2 Tuesday night in New Glasgow in Game # 6 of their Bent semifinal series.
With the win, the Crushers upset the Bearcats, winning the best of seven series 4-2 and advance to the Bent Division Final against the (1)Yarmouth Mariners (4-1). The Mariners will have home ice advantage.
Scott McManaman led the Crushers with two goals while Jordan Knox collected three assists.
McManaman opened the scoring at 1:49 to give the Crushers an early 1-0 lead. Rodi Short (powerplay) scored at 12:09 to tie the game 1-1. Tyson Cameron (powerplay) scored at 17:37 to regain the lead at 2-1 after the first period. Jason Rinzler (game winner) scored at 11:58 to extend the lead to 3-1 after the second period. Ryan Neaves scored at 11:25 to get the Bearcats to within a goal at 3-2. McManaman (empty net, second goal of game) ended the Bearcats season when he added an insurance marker at 19:00.
Pictou County went 1 for 3 on the powerplay while Truro went 1 for 4.
Alexandre Quessy stopped 17 of 19 shots for the win while Pierre Alexandre Marion stopped 31 of 34 shots in the loss.
Yarmouth was 4-2 against Pictou this year. The series is to begin Saturday at Mariners Centre.
