Merritt Awards: Recently, Two Planks and a Passion Theatre received six Merritt Award nominations for their 2007 outdoor production of The Odyssey.
During the 2008 awards ceremony in Halifax Mon., March 3, Two Planks won in three categories: Jenifer Darbellay for Outstanding Costume Design; Burgandy Code for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role; and Ken Schwartz for Outstanding Production. As one of the presenters, Schwartz gave out the award for Outstanding Set Design.
“We were so pleased just to be nominated. It’s great to see everyone’s hard work paying off!” Schwartz said. “The notion of outdoor theatre (or Theatre Off the Grid, as we call it) was something pretty different, especially at the beautiful location at Ross Creek Centre for the Arts. For some, it was their first time experiencing theatre, let alone outdoor theatre.”
The 2008 Two Planks and a Passion’s Summer Season of Theatre off the Grid is looking forward to two productions, Our Town by Thornton Wilder running from July 2-27 and Jerome by Ami McKay running Aug.1-17 with four matinee showings.
