“The wall is going to be in the gym; it’s about a 44-foot long by eight feet rock wall,” said Physical Education teacher, Matthew Kennedy. “We want to try to promote active, healthy living. It’s just a different way than what they’re used to.”

The next fundraising event will be a hockey game between teachers and Grade 6 students.

Grade 5 teacher, Jeff Miller said they will bus the entire school to the Queens Memorial arena to watch the game Feb. 29 at 10 a.m.

The team consists of teachers, PSAs, a secretary and RCMP officer and South Shore Regional School Board Superintendent of Schools, Nancy Pynch-Worthylake.

The Grade 6 team has 17 members.

“It’s basically a team from the school. It’s just to have fun and raise some bucks,” stated Miller.

He hopes the game will raise around $1,000. The school’s goal is to raise $5,000.

Each student is requested to bring a toonie to attend the hockey game.

Parents may also attend, said Miller.

There will be a free will offering at the door.

Earlier fundraising included two movie nights, which together brought in more than $1,500.

Kennedy described the rock wall as a structure made out of plywood and 2x4s.

The structure will allow for different climbing combinations.

Kennedy said the kids are “more than enthusiastic” about getting a rock-climbing wall.

They hope to have it up and running by the end of the school year so that Grade 6 students have a chance to see it, added Miller.
