The Division 2 Liverpool Regional High School Women’s Warriors are still in the hunt for a position at the provincials, although 2008 was expected to be a rebuilding year, says Coach Irvin MacKenzie.
“We have a lot of young players, a lot of new faces this year, so we have come a long way and still have a shot at it.” He explained the athletes worked hard during the season.

“They had a positive, learning curve. We came a long way.”

The Western Region Championship 2008 was held in Liverpool Feb. 15-16. Although the Liverpool team didn’t win, they placed third and still have a chance to make the provincials at a qualifier this weekend.

MacKenzie said, “It was a great tournament. All three games on Saturday were good games and the championship game went into overtime.”

North East Kings Education Centre defeated Middleton 56-51 to advance to the provincials.

Middleton defeated Forest Heights 66-33, Central Kings beat Barrington 47-43, Middleton defeated Liverpool 55-33 and North East Kings won over Central Kings 55 to 30 on Friday.

On Saturday, before the championship, Liverpool bounced back with a 65 to 57 win over Central Kings, and Forest Heights defeated Barrington 45-42.

MacKenzie said, “We would like to thank everyone for their support during Regional weekend and throughout the season. A special thanks to the parents, LRHS Student Council and staff, Sobeys, South Shore Docks, Clattco Construction, Charles P. Ingram Construction and the Junior Officials at the Time Bench.”
