As the days turn into weeks, family, friends and investigators are increasingly worried and baffled by the disappearance of 12-year old Karissa Boudreau.
Hope was woken as reports of the police being ‘slightly optimistic’ after hearing too many days of no news at all.
However, according to Sgt. John Collyer of the Bridgewater police there are no new developments in the case.
“It was a misspeak on my part,” admitted Sgt. Collyer.
When he was being interviewed by a reporter he explained that for a few days no tips were coming in to the station and he was worried that tips had dried up too soon. After tips and leads began to flow once again, he told the reporter that it was a positive development in the case and felt optimistic there was something to follow once again.
Search has continued every day since her disappearance on all levels. It is difficult not to see her young smiling face on a poster as you walk into any gas station and thousands of supporters are circulating her information through the popular Facebook site on the Internet.
Police divers spent two days this week searching the LaHave River in Bridgewater not far from the Sobey’s parking lot where Karissa was last seen and did not find any sign that she had fallen through the ice.
According to Sgt. Collyer, Police dogs were used the night of her disappearance to try to track her scent.
“Due to a storm it was not a good track,” he said.
Two days later, they picked up their attempt to follow her scent with the dogs and searched the woods nearby but to no avail.
Karissa disappeared wearing light clothing and pink Crocs and was not carrying a cell phone or purse.
Police are frustrated by the lack of clues as to Karissa’s disappearance but misinformed rumours have been cropping up throughout the South Shore of spottings and speculations.
“To date we do not know where Karissa is,” said Sgt. Collyer.
