Amero rink out of running at Junior nationals
The Kelsey Amero-led rink is playing its final games today at the Canadian junior men’s and women’s curling championships in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

The Nova Scotia representatives play Northwest Territories at 9 a.m., and Northern Ontario at 7 p.m. With two wins and eight losses, the team out of this weekend’s championship games.

Amero, a 19-year-old native of Digby who is studying at Saint Mary’s University, won the Nova Scotia junior men’s championship Jan. 7 with a team he put together at the Mayflower rink in Halifax this winter.

To get to the nationals, the Amero rink downed two-time junior champion Dominic Daemen and his rink.

The Northern Ontario rink, which Amero faces today, has a 5-5 record after 15 draws. Northwest Territories sits at the bottom of the standings after going 1-9 through the championships that began Feb. 3.

With Amero on the Nova Scotia are teammates Adrian Anctil, Cameron MacKenzie and Justin Burns.

The Amero rink posted an 8-5 win over British Columbia and squeezed past Yukon 6-5.

Quebec and Ontario rinks led the standings heading into the final day of round-robin play.
