A passerby noticed a fire burning outside the front of a 2.5-storey residence late Saturday evening on O’Brien Street in Windsor.
The occupants inside were alerted, as they were unaware of the blaze, which was under a bay window and burning into the floor framing of the house.
On arrival, firefighters found neighbours working to contain the fire. Firefighters extinguished the remaining fire on the exterior and removed a section of floor in the bay window area to facilitate final extinction.
The home suffered minor smoke and water damage. The occupants were able to return to their home when firefighters completed their work.
The fire was determined accidental in nature, having started as a result of ashes being placed too close to combustibles next to the house. No injuries were reported.
