Junior high wins curling banner
The South Queens Junior High School boys curling team brought home a championship banner from the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation curling regionals for a second time.
The regionals took place in Chester from Jan. 18-19.
Junior high principal Leo Campbell said three of the four players were returning members.
The team consists of Jonathan Himmelman as lead, Bryden MacNamara as second, Joel Smith as third and Thomas Raddall as the skip.
The boys won their first game against Hebbville 7-2 (5 ends). They played a second game against Annapolis defeating them 15-0 (4 ends).
On Jan.19 the team beat Chester 6-2 (6 ends). Later that day they won their game against Berwick 7-2 in six ends.
They played Bridgewater for the championship.
South Queens won 6-1 in six ends.
“The future looks good,” said Campbell about winning next year’s regionals.
“We appreciate the help the junior curling program provides because without them our athletes wouldn’t perform as well,” he added.
