“Ag Day in Canada” will have the same impact in 84 communities, including here in the Valley.
The January 23 “celebration” of one of the country’s most vital and vibrant industries is a party being hosted by Farm Credit Canada.
“We’ve never done it before,” says local organizer Carolyn Coady, an FCC customer service rep in Kentville.
“We’re hoping everyone comes - it’s to make people aware of farming and what’s going on.”
That’s a lot, judging by the jam-packed presentation that will be jointly presented across Canada with local hosts and a packaged DVD: growing a business in a commodity market, finding farm labour, alternative fuels and agriculture, land values, farm safety, crop science and globalization trends. The afternoon wraps up with a panel discussion on local and national farm-related issues and opportunities.
“There are issues - out west, it’s wheat and grains; in other areas, it’s potatoes - right across the country, and farmers live and breathe the agriculture business,” says Coady. “And, they’re our business.
Ag Day here in the Valley promises lots of information and displays, local hosts from Kentville’s Farm Credit Canada office, a “huge cake,” Coady says, and refreshments, along with some door prizes.
